In Memoriam: Tribute to Martin Angel Zani

Tribute to my uncle and godfather Martin Angel Zani (1923-2016). I consider Martin as my second father. Martin's parents came from Bergamo, Italy —a Germanic Region of Northern Italy, near the Austrian border (the name of this city derived from Bergheim: the house on the mountain)— they emigrated to France. He was born in Gagny, a Western suburb of Paris.

He was 17 when France was invaded by the German army. He fled to Saint Martin on the Isle of RĂ© in Brittany to avoid a forced integration in the Austrian units of the 3rd Reich.
In 1943, he rallied the Army of Free France and was incorporated in a Tank Destroyer Division.

PoD (Post of the Day): Saint Martin

Today is November 11th, 2020: it's Saint Martin's Day ...

Saint Martin was a roman centurion. He was born in a upper class family circa 316 in Szombathely, Panonia (today: Hungary), and died November 8th 361 in Candes-Saint-Martin, France.

He converted to Christianism during his teen age.

He was famous for having shared his mantle with a hobo when he was in the Roman Legion.

Let me tell you why Saint Martin is appearing in this Genealogical Blog. It's the surname of my beloved godfather, Martin Cesar Zani. For me he was more than a godfather, he was my second father, and I consider his only son - i.e. my cousin patrick - as my elder brother. Patrick died without descendant.

Selecting a theme for my G-Blog...

 Today is November 10th, 2020...
Today's task, is selecting a theme for this G-Blog!
I like this one, named "contempo" and proposed by Google. Its illustration is quite nice. I changed the title "here & there" proposed as an example , to "Now and Then" which fits better my genealogical topics.
The next tasks will be to add some labels to my past posts and then I'll keep on writing daily posts, articles and pages...
That's all, folks!
